Pengetahuan Sedikit atau Silap?

Posted by mynormas on January 12, 2022

Anda rasa mereka nak dengar penjelasan?

Puisi Alexander Pope berterusan mengatakan “drink deep or taste not the Pierian spring” iaitu ditafsirkan sebagai mengatakan, kalau nak belajar, belajar habis-habisan atau jangan belajar langsung.

Allah yang lebih mengetahui.

Cukupkah Dengan Urea?

Posted by mynormas on April 12, 2018

Ia ibarat dua beradik dewasa.

Selamat Mencuba!

Orang Diperlukan

Posted by mynormas on February 10, 2018

Perhatian.

 • Umur 20 – 30 tahun.
 • Sekurang kurangnya SPM.
 • Boleh memandu kereta dan motosikal.
 • Tahan kerja luar: panas dan hujan.
 • Kadang kadang perlu kerja lewat mengawasi perlawanan malam.

Malah saya sering jumpa orang bertubuh besar tapi jiwa kecil.

Jika anda bekas pelajar pertanian, hubungi saya.

Wetter Weather.

Posted by mynormas on December 22, 2014

The Star today is reporting high tide and wetter weather for Malaysia in the next few days. Not the best weather for golf and miserable weather for golf course and field maintenance staff. I guess we’ll just have to weather it out (pun intended).

For those of us near the sea, be careful of sea water on grass and especially be careful of sea water contaminating your irrigation ponds (it has happened before).

From The Star today 22 December 2014. (Part of it. Get the paper for whole story).

High Tide Phenomenon And Wetter Weather Expected Over Next Few Days

Monday, Dec 22 2014

PETALING JAYA: The floods which have ravaged the east coast and displaced tens of thousands of people are set to worsen with wetter weather predicted over the next few days. The Meteorological Department expects the high tide phenomenon due to the new moon and perigee to exacerbate the situation.A perigee is when the moon is positioned closest to the earth, resulting in stronger gravitational force than normal, generating higher tides. The department has for now issued a yellow stage alert for rainfall over Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Baru, Bachok, Pasir Puteh, Machang, Tanah Merah, Jeli and Kuala Krai), Terengganu (all districts), Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan, Rompin and Jerantut) and Johor (Mersing, Kota Tinggi, Kluang and Segamat). The yellow stage advisory is the lowest of the three-tier warnings. It is issued for intermittent moderate rain expected over the next 24 to 48 hours. When the rainfall changes from intermittent to continuous, the yellow stage advisory would be changed to orange and then to red if heavy rain is incessant. The department’s spokesperson Dr Hisham Mohd Anip said heavy rainfall was usually expected in places such as southern Terengganu, eastern Pahang and eastern Johor during the end of the year. “We are expecting rain in these places to persist until Christmas,” he said yesterday. The department has also issued a warning over strong winds and rough seas in the coastal areas of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah until Wednesday.Strong northeasterly winds with speeds of up to 60kph have been forecast along with rough seas (category three) with waves as high as 5.5m.Rises in sea levels are also expected at coastal areas of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and east Johor. The department has warned that the strong winds and rough seas were dangerous to all coastal and shipping activities and posed danger to workers on oil platforms.

A new set of eyes.

Posted by mynormas on February 25, 2014

Sometimes a problem creeps up on you so slowly that you adapt to it and does not see it as a problem.

I usually see it in golf clubs that the staff has been there for ages. Sometimes they’ve been there for more than one generation.

I was in a rural golf course and I saw that an oil palm tree has grown where it shouldn’t be. It is what oil palm planters would call as “Volunteer Oil Palm”; that is, oil palm that grew from seeds that fell from the tree.

The palm tree grew slowly without fertiliser and by now its fronds have blocked the buggy path.

Probably because it grew slowly, golfers and staff alike got used to it and took a diversion through the rough.

Chalk that up as another reason why a visiting consultant can be of use to a golf club, bringing with him a fresh set of eyes, not just looking but also seeing from a new perspective.

Golf and Grass

Posted by mynormas on December 10, 2013

This slides are aimed at non or new golfers in a class that I teach in a local college.

Taiping Golf Resort

Posted by mynormas on September 9, 2013

Have you been to Taiping Golf Resort recently? No? You should. The place was formerly known as Bukit Jana Golf and Country Club.

A friend who had just joined Taiping Golf Resort asked me to come over for a visit. As I was in the area visiting a client last week, I dropped by. Having consulted two other golf clubs in the area and trained in one other; I was expecting more of same.

The picture doesn't do it justice. Do go there to judge for yourself.

The picture doesn’t do it justice. Do go there to judge for yourself.

Surprise, surprise. Taiping Golf Resort could put many Klang Valley clubs to shame. The greens are firm and fast. They’re also green. And if you think that is a ‘given’ you need to visit a lot more golf clubs. Or perhaps, I see beyond the colour and look at the health of the green. In any case, the Course Superintendent, one Mr. Huzaine is a firm believer in grooming the greens; a practice which escapes most Malaysian Superintendents.

Get this: he has four walk-behinds for 19 greens (one practice green); two of which are antiquated and have the floating heads designed for undulating greens. This machine has a narrower width of cut than usual and this means his workers has to walk more to cut a green compared to a normal 22-inch wide walk-behinds.

The fairways and roughs are neat and well-maintained. He has one tractor-towed, ground-driven three-gang fairway mower (I was told it used to be five-gang) and one 72-inch rotary rough mower.

Another surprise is that few Klang Valley golfers know about Taiping Golf Resort. It has a comfortable hotel, a decent clubhouse and is just outside of Taiping town. Its about 10-15 minutes away from the North-South highway. By the way, Taiping Golf Resort was formerly known as Bukit Jana Golf and Country Club.

Not many clubs can boast Tifdwarf this tight with a budget that tight...

TGR has challenging undulating greens, wide but long fairways, tricky dog-legs and well-maintained roughs. Its pretty good for weekend golfers and even those who are looking for something new. The bunkers? You have got to see them. I saw one big deep bunker and a few long ones. I wonder who designed this course. Anybody know?

I’d like to congratulate En. Huzaine and En. Basri for a job well done.

Golf course Irrigation

Posted by mynormas on January 31, 2013

I teach part-time at a local college for the Diploma in Golf Resort Management and one of the topics is about the basics of golf course irrigation. So far there are no new student for this semester and rather than let my slides go to waste, I’m uploading them onto http://www.slideshare.net for anyone to read and if I’m lucky, to comment on and perhaps correct or update where necessary.

I’ll continue to upload my slides in the future; of course most of them would be incomprehensible without the accompanying explanations or hard-copy notes that I may distribute in class so I’ll have to modify before I upload and some; I won’t bother to attempt.

<a href=”http://www.slideshare.net/normas98/11-irrigation-system” title=”Basics of golf course irrigation system” target=”_blank”>Basics of golf course irrigation system from Normas Yakin

Feel free to comment, query, correct, update or even thank me here on this site itself

Happy Day!

Posted by mynormas on January 26, 2012

Yeah its my birthday. And I am happy.

My previous highest number of pageviews per day for this website was 313 in November 2011. I had kept this website off-line for a year in 2010 due to the amount of spam I was getting. So in 2011 I found a new host and even had a new name http://www.pakarrumput.com registered but I decided to stay with http://www.mynormas.com as my brand name.

You know what. Just a few minutes ago as the clock struck midnight to mark a new day and a new number for my age; the pageview for mynormas.com was recorded 502!

It may not be much by your website standards but you try and start a grass website and see how much response you can get. I am actually proud of it.

Thank you all…

My TV interview in 2009

Posted by mynormas on January 25, 2012

I was interviewed on TV3’s Malaysia Hari Ini in 2009.

In case you were wondering, in the interview; with regard to the jokes about “Pakar Rumput yang Perkasa”; just before the camera started rolling, the interviewer teased me about being a ‘pakar rumput’ (turf expert) to which I replied “I’m still macho” or words to that effect, to which she said “The macho turf expert” and translated it to “Pakar Rumput yang Perkasa” which sounds weird/funny.

This is actually my second TV ‘appearance’. I actually was interviewed for an hour by another TV3 programme about football (soccer) in 2007 which was shown after the midnight news. I did not ask/receive a copy of the interview. It was about football fields in Malaysia. The producer has since left TV3.

I’ve even misplaced this CD once and thought that I’ve lost this one too. As soon as I found it, I uploaded it on Youtube and you can watch it here:
