Technical Training

Other than consultancy services, I also provide training and education for the golf course and other turfgrass maintenance work

Training operators at KLGCC

. Among the topics that I do are basic and intermediate golf course maintenance; turfgrass pesticide applicator and machinery operator training. With 18 years of experience in the golf course from working on the ground as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to managing clubs as Manager or Director, I can tailor-make programs for your particular problem.

I quote from RM1,500 per day for basic and intermediate training and up to RM4,000 per day for specialized technical training. Does not include meals, rooms, AV or such. For clubs/fields outside of Klang Valley, a surcharge for transport and meals is applicable. But what the heck; I’ll throw in a free one-time field visit for a win-win feeling.

And if you think training programs are expensive; consider that you are letting untrained staff spend anything from RM30,000 to RM200,00 a month worth of chemicals, fertilizers, fuels and other expendables in your golf course that costs you about RM4 million to 60 million ringgit to build. Of course, those trainings can be tailor-made for stadiums, football fields and even tamans.

When spraying potentially dangerous and expensive chemicals beside a lake; don't you want proper training like this? I'm in the bright blue shirt.

Agensi En. Normas ada menawarkan kursus berkenaankh? By the way, I’m a postgraduate student in agronomy. Thank you for your time.

Geff, Saya tidak buat kursus short term. Saya mengajar untuk student full time di KDU which I won’t recommend to you.
UUM ada buat but I cannot tell you more coz I don’t know enough about it. Try their website. KBS will have one in the future, I am part of panel developing the syllabus. Maybe next year start.
Or… you can try jumping into the deep end. Your studies should hold you in good stead. Apply for a job vacancy in East Malaysia as CS. The boss is a former Superintendent (now Club Manager) so he may take it that he can mentor you. Send your resume to me and I’ll forward to him.
By the way, I assume you are from UPM? Meet En. Roslin from unit golf and tell him you want to volunteer work so that you know how to operate a few important machines in the golf course (walk-behind greensmower, triplex 5-gang and tractor). No need to be expert; just need to know how to operate. He’s usually short handed so I’m sure he will appreciate extra help. Also ask him to teach you how to change pin and tee marker.
Lagi, cakap kat dia you nak join the Golf Course Supt Assoc of Malaysia as a student member, I think it is RM60 per year or something.
Last sekali. Go to any driving range near your house and ask for golf lesson. No need to be a pro… yet; just enough so that masa interview, you can tell the interviewer “Sedang belajar”.
The industry is short of people. Jump right in. Ask En. Roslin if you can join member and go to the GCSAM meeting on the 21st. Nov. Start networking. Bring friends. I may be there, we can meet.

Sorry for late reply. Thank you for the infos & advices. I really appreciate that. Actually I’m Sarawakian (Iban from Kota Samarahan) and study at UNIMAS. I did submitted my application for CS to some golf club in Kuching and Samarahan. Recently I submitted my resume and cv to golf resort which next to my U. I guess you know the golf resort that I mentioned. I’m indebted to you for your favour in offering me a help. Well please give me some times for me to send my resume to you. So how do I contact En. Roslin? Does he has email, etc.? I’m interested to join the Golf Course Supt Assoc of Malaysia and hope I can get some informations about it from En. Roslin or you. There’s lack of information about GCSAM membership in internet. I hope we can meet someday Mr. Normas and wish you can be my mentor.

I studied in UPM Sarawak branch near Penrissen camp. Now the buildings have been demolished. I think only the Institut Pertanian remains.
I consulted for the course beside your university in 2009. Good luck. Though I think they are looking for someone who can look after golf course AND clubhouse at same time.
Send resume quick. Another club in Kuching is looking for CS.
Contact En. Roslin at roslin@putra.upm.edu.my . Mention my name. I’ll let you know when I’m in Sarawak. I don’t mind being your mentor Geff. I had a mentor when I first started too. As I said before. Any chance you got, ask for a low paying job at a golf course but on condition the CS will teach you the basics of all machinery operation, the mechanic teach you basic of machinery common problem, and they teach you basic of spraying and fertilizing. I will guide you when you can tell me what you are doing and how to improve. That’s how I started; I worked like a labourer on a golf course with an Australian Superintendent. By the time I became superintendent, the workers know I know what they are doing. They cannot cheat me.

    Salam En. Normas,
